Title: Negative Color- Part 6
Rating: PG
Game: FF8
Pairing: Zell x Squall
Description: It's over, and now their love must remain silent.

Zell's eyes fluttered open. He winced when the dull lamplight that he had forgotten to shut off earlier had hit his eyes. There was a soft hum of breathing next to his arm. With a curious glance he looked over to see the still sleeping Squall, his hand grabbed tightly at bed sheets. His eyes were loosely closed and a soft, content smile decorated his lips. The blonde chuckled to himself.

Sitting up carefully to make sure he didn't disturb his sleeping prince, he let out a monstrous yawn. Scratching his side, the boy got up off the bed and fashioned himself with a stray bed sheet on the floor.

Zell made his way across the wooden floors to the large window parallel to his bed. He shrugged his shoulders to get the sheet around himself more. A reflection of himself leered back at him through the glass. He looked beaten yet pleased all at the same time. He knew inside that he felt alive. Whole. Complete.

The boy smiled, crossing his arms around his stomach, and he watched the gentle rainfall over Balamb's perfect ocean. It was still night, only about three in the morning, Zell suspected. The rain had softened since earlier, but the silver capsules were made easy to see by the shy peaking moon. He saw Squall arise lazily, rubbing his stormy eyes with annoyance from waking up so early.

"Mornin' baby," Zell greeted. He didn't bother to turn around and catch Squall's naked glory. "I was kinda hopin' you would have stayed asleep longer." He watched as the gunblader made his way over to Zell's side clumsily, a blanket covering his skin as well.

"Why's that?" Squall questioned, wrapping his arms around the boy's waist from behind. They stared at their reflection for a long while. Perfect… Just so perfect… Zell thought. He rubbed his cheek on Squall's shoulder.

How he wished to be with him forever… He felt powerless to his feelings. Every word Squall said he wanted more. Is love always that tormenting? He covered up his confusion with a satisfied smile.

"You never get sleep," the blonde stated, the fact by far the depressing truth. Squall nodded, not really affected anyways. That was two more hours of sleep than he had the rest of the week. The brunette squeezed his prize, and placed a gentle kiss on his collarbone.

"I am… The ocean…" Zell gave the vast ocean before his view a personality. He was being deeper than he ever thought possible. There was too much in his head to even begin to sort it out. "Always coming back for more. Always bright in the daylight. Always moving, always fighting…" He trailed when he noticed how stupid he was sounding.

They stood there watching the waves recede from the rocky shore, only to engulf the jagged rocks again. The boats in the harbor swayed with ease from each passing disturbance. Its dark waters being illuminated eerily by the clouded moon.

"I am the storm…" Squall began, burying his face into Zell's soft neck. "Always dark. Always disturbing. Taking away the light of other beings day. I'm everywhere and hopeless to predict."

"Negative color…" Zell trailed, their analogies becoming a weird form of poetry.

"Blending into one."

"Forever…"

Squall nodded. "Forever."

The taller man ran his hands up Zell's fragile frame and took his shoulders into a firm grip. Turning the man around he placed his lips on his awaiting friend's, wrapping his bed sheet covered arms around his friendly counterpart.

And they kissed in the distant scenery of a never-ending, never told story of eternity.

Zell hopped around on one leg, trying desperately to get his shoe back onto his foot. With a grunt he finally got the thing over the annoying hurdle (the heel, duh) and stomped his foot on the ground. The two had decided to leave before sunrise so nobody would even question what they had done that night.

Well… Squall decided at least. Zell wanted more time both at home and with Squall.

"Almost ready?" Squall asked, already dressed in his full attire, minus the jacket of course.

"Yeah, yeah," Zell's voice was coated with annoyance. He bent over and quickly tied both his shoes. "I need to say bye to Ma before we leave." It wasn't even a question. They were going to do it weither Squall wanted to or not. The taller man nodded in approval as he walked over and opened the door for his companion to leave out of. The blonde walked past, a healthy bounce in his step, and gave the man a cheesy salute. Squall chuckled and placed his arm around the boy's shoulder.

They walked down the hallway, Squall's arm still thrown over Zell's shoulder. The blonde escaped his friend's loving gesture to go into his mom's room. "I'll just be a second." Zell stated, slipping into the darkness of her room.

Squall leaned up against the opposing wall. All he could hear was soft mumbles and then a sudden out burst of sobs. Zell's voice was heard over it all, trying to calm down the depressed pleads from his mother. She finally cooled down and a few minutes later Zell came back out and shut the door behind him. He ran into Squall's arms, he himself near tears.

"This sucks so much!" the blonde hiccupped. Squall tried to calm Zell's rage with back patting and light kisses on the top of his head. "This fuckin' sucks!" He cursed. The thing he was feeling was all but temperamental. He felt like the world was against him again.

"It's okay Zell," Squall reassured. He turned from the wall and put his hand on Zell's back to keep him moving. "We're coming back. I give you my word."

Zell looked up at him, still walking in the meantime. He nodded then kept his eyes back on his way.

It had nearly been two hours since their stare off into Balamb's ocean coast. In a few moments the sun would be rising over the horizon making everything pale and colorful again. They were half way back to Balamb Garden, and were the only two residents on the lone road to the mobile fortress. A light sprinkle of rain cried down on them from the heavens.

"So no words about this to anyone?" Zell asked. He was beyond disappointed. He was insulted.

"No," the brunette said. He didn't need a reason. He knew Zell would respect his wishes.

"I won't forget about it though." Zell ran his hand in his golden locks. He was going to wait to spike it when he got back to his dorm. Plus, hair was the last thing he had to worry about.

"I won't either." Squall promised. He took Zell by the side, and they continued to walk hip to hip. The blonde placed his head on the man's shoulder.

They walked for a few more minutes until the entrance of the Garden was only a few yards away. Zell stopped and looked up at Squall, a pleading look in his aqua eyes. "I'll be waiting for the storm when it comes by next time." He grinned sadly. The very slightest hint of light began to peak over the horizon. The mist from the rain began to disappear and the rain began to drop only every so often.

Squall placed a hand on Zell's cheek and gave him a soft peck on the lips. "And I'll never forget to sail the ocean when I feel lost." They hugged for the last time for a long, long time.

And the rest of the story happened as normal as it ever could.
